Pune- EKA Mobility., a manufacturer of electric buses and commercial vehicles, has entered into a landmark partnership with Kerchanshe Trading PLC, one of East Africa’s most diversified business groups, to establish distribution, assembly, and after-sales operations for its electric vehicles across the region.
The agreement was formalized at a ceremony in Dubai, where Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Founder and Chairman of EKA Mobility, and Dr. Israel Dejene, CEO and Chairman of Kerchanshe Trading PLC, signed the strategic partnership in the presence of senior executives from both companies.
EKA Mobility brings its proven expertise in electric buses, light commercial vehicles, and three-wheelers, supported by strong R&D capabilities and a rapidly expanding manufacturing base in India.
Kerchanshe Trading PLC, Ethiopia’s largest coffee exporter and a major player in the agriculture, construction, and automotive sectors, is recognized as one of East Africa’s most respected conglomerates with significant experience in industrial operations and vehicle assembly.
Through this collaboration, EKA and Kerchanshe aim to accelerate the adoption of clean and sustainable mobility solutions across East Africa. The roadmap includes setting up a local CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly plant for EKA vehicles in Ethiopia, launching distribution and service networks across the region, and introducing a comprehensive range of electric vehicles tailored to local market needs.
Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Founder and Chairman of EKA Mobility, said, “Our partnership with Kerchanshe Group is a proud milestone in EKA’s mission to democratize sustainable mobility globally. Ethiopia, with its growing industrial base and commitment to clean energy, offers an ideal hub for our East African operations. Together, we aim to build not just vehicles, but a cleaner and more inclusive future for mobility in the region.”
Mr. Israel Degefa, CEO and President of Kerchanshe Group, said, “This collaboration marks the beginning of a new era for electric mobility in East Africa. By combining EKA’s cutting-edge EV technology with our strong local expertise in assembly and distribution, we are creating a powerful ecosystem that promotes green mobility, industrial growth, and job creation.”
The partnership represents a major stride toward developing a long-term, sustainable electric mobility ecosystem in East Africa. By merging EKA Mobility’s advanced EV technology with Kerchanshe’s deep regional expertise, the two companies aim to position Ethiopia as a central hub for electric vehicle manufacturing and clean transportation across the continent
