Electreon unveils the world’s first commercial wireless charging terminal for buses in Israel
Israel, Middle East- Electreon Wireless Ltd., a developer and provider of wireless charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs), has achieved a significant milestone by completing the construction of the world's first wireless charging terminal for parked urban electric buses. This groundbreaking project, situated in Rosh HaAyin, Israel, serves as a commercial endeavor delivered to Electra Afikim Ltd., a prominent public transportation operator in the country.
The wireless charging terminal operates in a distributed energy model, providing stationary wireless charging for Ielectric buses both day and night at the public bus terminal. Oren Ezer, Electreon's CEO, said that "Introducing this pioneering technology in Israel, emphasizing its efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and space-saving benefits for public transit buses in busy urban zones".
Electreon managed the entire project, including electrical infrastructure, necessary approvals, and civil engineering works. The company also implemented an advanced charging software platform to remotely manage and oversee wireless charging activities at the terminal.
This achievement is not only a technical and operational success but also a commercial one, as Electreon collaborated with leading international bus manufacturers—HIGER, Ankai, and Sunwin to integrate its vehicle receivers into their electric buses. Notably, HIGER and Ankai completed the full European Union's (EU) WVTA approval process, a significant milestone for Electreon's wireless electric bus receiver as an off-the-shelf product for the automotive industry.
The fully commercial project, valued at approximately 5.8 million ILS (approximately 1.6 million USD) for 2023, covers software services, operations, and maintenance throughout its duration. Electra Afikim, managing around 500 bus service lines and transporting 51 million passengers annually, is a major player in Israel's public transportation sector.
The project launch event, attended by the Minister of Transport, highlighted the cooperation between Electra Afikim, the Ministry of Transportation, and the National Road Safety Authority. Electreon's CEO anticipates widespread benefits from the technology, envisioning Israel as a leader in implementing sustainable transportation technologies.
Tal Cohen, CEO of Electra Afikim, said that, "being the first to operate a fleet of electric buses with Electreon's technology, aligning with the company's vision for smart and advanced transportation".
Shalom Ben Moshe, Rosh HaAyin Mayor, said that, "the city's commitment to green public transportation, applauding the arrival of electric buses as a result of ongoing efforts to improve public transportation policies. The mayor thanked the Ministry of Transportation for supporting their vision for wireless charging and expressed confidence in the innovative technology's positive impact on residents and the environment".
This accomplishment reinforces Electreon's technological prowess and its pivotal role in reshaping the global electric mobility landscape with innovative and sustainable solutions. The success of this stationary wireless charging project adds to Electreon's list of achievements in a year marked by numerous technical and commercial successes.
