Stockholm, Sweden – Epiroc AB., a mining and construction equipment manufacturer, has introduced the Scooptram ST4, a compact underground loader designed specifically for small drift mines. Developed with input from mining experts, the 4-tonne loader features a completely redesigned powertrain and structure to deliver higher productivity, efficiency, and reliability.
The new powertrain includes updated transmission, converter, and engine options, offering a 20 percent power increase compared to the previous Scooptram ST2G. Available with Tier 3/EU Stage IIIA and Tier 4/EU Stage V engines, the ST4 delivers faster cycle times and improved operational efficiency. The Stage V engine also reduces particulate matter and nitrogen oxides, enhancing underground air quality.
Field testing showed a 27 percent rise in RPM during mucking and hydraulic operations and a 13 percent shorter cycle motion time, resulting in quicker bucket movements and faster loading. The loader achieves up to 45 percent higher tramming speeds on flat ground and maintains strong performance on inclines, significantly increasing tonnage output per cycle.
The redesigned rear frame improves visibility by lowering the structure by 100 mm, while reinforced components, such as the drive shaft and optional passive Diesel Particulate Filter (pDPF), enhance durability and reduce maintenance needs.
Ms. Mary Zhu, Global Product Manager for Scooptram – Small Segment, said, “The Scooptram ST4 represents a major step forward in productivity and performance. With its new powertrain and improved design, it builds on the proven success of the ST2G and is already showing strong results in customer operations.”
