Ontario, Canada - Epiroc AB., a mining and construction equipment manufacturer, secured a significant order from Hudbay Minerals Inc., an integrated mining company, for a fleet of battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) destined for use in an underground mine in Canada.

Hudbay Minerals has ordered battery-electric vehicle (BEV) versions of the Boomer M20 SG face drilling rig, the Scooptram ST18 SG and ST14 SG loaders, and the Minetruck MT42 SG hauler. These machines will be deployed at the Lalor mine in Snow Lake, Manitoba, to reduce emissions while extracting gold, copper, zinc, and silver.

Booked in Q1 2025, Epiroc will supply BEVs and aftermarket support, including service and rock drilling tools. Deliveries to the Lalor mine are set between Q1 and Q3 2025. Hudbay Minerals has successfully tested Epiroc’s battery-powered Scooptram loader for years.

Epiroc has secured orders for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) across 39 mine sites worldwide. Nearly one-third of the mines already using BEVs have placed repeat orders. Beyond BEV machines, Epiroc offers a comprehensive range of electrification solutions, including expertise, infrastructure, cable-electric machines, battery chargers, maintenance, and recycling.

Mr. Helena Hedblom, President and CEO at Epiroc, said, “We are happy to support Hudbay Minerals as it takes its next step on its electrification journey. There are clear benefits to our customers that invest in electrical equipment. It improves the health of the employees, saves ventilation costs, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, our battery-powered equipment also outperforms the productivity of corresponding diesel equipment.”

Mr. Rob Carter, Vice president of Hudbay Manitoba business unit, said, “Expanding our BEV fleet at Lalor is a cornerstone of our Green Revolution strategy, driven by the tangible benefits we've seen including significant greenhouse gas reductions, improved operator satisfaction, and lower maintenance costs. Our strong partnership with Epiroc, that provides exceptional support and truly invests in our success, made this BEV fleet expansion a logical and responsible choice.”
