      India- Ministry of Road Transport and Highways released notification rules for retro-fitment of electric drive and hybrid-electric systems on passenger and commercial vehicles. The new regulations are detailed under 115-D of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

      Retro-fitment of a Hybrid-Electric Drive Kit to motor vehicles or conversion of motor vehicles to all-electric operation by fitment of a Pure Electric System Kit shall conform with the requirements given in AIS 1231 standards. All providers, manufacturer / installer of the Hybrid Electric System Kit or Pure Electric System Kit is required to obtain type approval certificates from a testing agency such as ARAI2 & ICAT3.
