Buckinghamshire, UK- Gridserve Sustainable Energy Limited., has announced the deployment of ABB E-mobility’s latest A400 ultra-rapid charger across the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway, marking a significant upgrade to the UK’s most widely used EV charging network. The introduction reinforces GRIDSERVE’s focus on delivering faster, more reliable, and more user-friendly charging for electric vehicle drivers nationwide.

Over the past five years, GRIDSERVE has delivered more than 200 charging locations, covering around 85% of the UK’s motorway network, and continues to invest heavily in next-generation charging infrastructure. The A400 charger made its public debut at GRIDSERVE’s newest charging site at Centaurus Park, Bristol, located close to Junction 17 of the M5.

Designed to address key challenges in EV charging reliability, simplicity, and operational efficiency the ABB A400 features a new 32-inch display with physical buttons, guiding drivers clearly through the charging and payment process. The charger has been engineered to meet the stringent uptime and success-rate requirements of the UK Public Charging Point Regulation (UK PCPR), enabling a consistently dependable charging experience.

The A400 delivers up to 400 kW of ultra-rapid charging power, allowing compatible electric vehicles to gain over 100 miles of range in under 10 minutes. Two CCS connectors support simultaneous charging, while dynamic power sharing intelligently allocates power between vehicles based on real-time demand.

According to Rebecca Trebble, the partnership with ABB E-mobility sets a new benchmark for charging performance and reliability in the UK, helping make EV charging as straightforward and dependable as traditional refuelling.

Operationally, the network is supported by the GRIDSERVE Innovation and Operations Centre (GIOC), which monitors all chargers around the clock, enabling predictive maintenance and rapid fault resolution. This is complemented by GRIDSERVE’s in-house roadside support teams, further strengthening network reliability.

Bruno Bourguet added that the A400 represents a milestone in charging technology, combining high performance, scalability, and an intuitive, award-winning user interface designed to make electric driving effortless.

With the rollout of the A400, GRIDSERVE continues to enhance the Electric Highway, supporting the UK’s transition to electric mobility with infrastructure built for speed, scale, and reliability.
