GRIMME Launches New Varitron Harvester for Enhanced Efficiency

Damme, Germany - GRIMME Landmaschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG., an agricultural machinery manufacturer, has unveiled the latest generation of its two-row, self-propelled Varitron harvester, focusing on optimizing both operator comfort and harvesting efficiency for vegetables and potatoes. The upgraded model features significant improvements, particularly in the cab design and crop flow process.

The new Varitron comes with a redesigned, spacious cab offering generous legroom and narrow pillars for improved visibility. The cab also features a 2-zone automatic climate control system, ensuring a comfortable working environment. A large windscreen provides an unobstructed view of the intake, while a swiveling leather seat enhances operator comfort. The intuitive operation is managed via the large CCI 1200 operator terminal with Grimme’s Digital Interface (GDI), providing seamless control.

The cab includes up to 13 cameras integrated into the SmartView video system, displayed on a 12-inch screen. This system offers features like zooming and live slow-motion, improving operational flexibility and precision. The Varitron’s all-round visibility is enhanced by new LED lighting, ensuring excellent performance even in low-light conditions or poor weather. The system also allows for comprehensive monitoring of harvest masses with an optional integrated mass mapping system.

The new Varitron offers exceptional flexibility with an interchangeable intake system for quick adjustments between crop types and harvesting conditions. It also retains Grimme's proven depth control systems, ‘TerraDisc’ and ‘TerraControl’, ensuring easy changeovers. A redesigned spiral roller improves impurity separation and boosts performance while reducing roller wear.

The Varitron features a unique double-separator and fine haulm elevator, which can be configured as a Double-MultiSep or roller separator with MultiSep, plus the crop-friendly TwinSep bypass. To prevent blockages and ensure smooth operation, all key components can be easily reversed from the operator’s cab, allowing for quick obstruction clearance and reduced downtime.

The Varitron is designed with the picking crew's comfort in mind, featuring an optional weather roof (with or without side panels) for protection in all conditions. The colour-neutral white tarp helps operators identify green tubers easily. With these upgrades, Grimme’s new-generation Varitron offers advanced technology, operator comfort, and flexible, efficient harvesting—perfect for modern agricultural operations.
