SEOUL, South Korea - HD Hyundai Co., Ltd., a construction machinery manufacturer, has announced the promotion of Executive Vice Chairman Chung Kisun to Chairman, as part of its latest executive leadership appointments.
Chairman Chung holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Yonsei University and an MBA from Stanford University. He began his career in 2009 with the Finance Team of the Corporate Planning Division at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. Over the years, he has taken on several key roles, including Head of Management Support at HD Hyundai, Head of Ship Sales at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and CEO of HD Hyundai Marine Solution.
Currently, Chairman Chung serves as CEO of HD Hyundai, the group’s holding company, and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the intermediate holding company overseeing the shipbuilding division. In his new capacity, he has also been named Co-CEO of HD Hyundai XiteSolution, where he will lead initiatives to address the downturn in the construction equipment business and identify new growth drivers.
Chung is credited with founding HD Hyundai Marine Solution in 2016 and growing it into one of the group’s core businesses, with a market capitalization of KRW 11 trillion. In 2021, he led the acquisition of Doosan Infracore, strengthening HD Hyundai’s presence in the global construction equipment sector.
As Executive Vice Chairman, Chung oversaw the group’s major strategic initiatives, focusing on future growth areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation, and eco-friendly technologies. He has also strengthened HD Hyundai’s collaboration with the United States, aligning with efforts to revitalize the shipbuilding industry through the Korea–U.S. Shipbuilding Cooperation Project.
