Honda Unveils Next-Gen Fuel Cell Module & Power Generator in H2 & FC Expo

Tokyo, Japan – Honda Motor Co., Ltd. unveiled the specifications of its Next Generation Fuel Cell Module and Honda Fuel Cell Power Generator for the first time globally at the 23rd H2 & FC EXPO – Int- Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Expo held at Tokyo Big Sight, Japan.

Production of the Honda Next Generation Fuel Cell Module is set to commence in 2027 (fiscal year ending March 31, 2028), while the Honda Fuel Cell Power Generator is scheduled for mass production in 2026.

Honda has unveiled its independently developed Next Generation Fuel Cell Module, delivering 150 kW output while halving production costs and doubling durability. With a threefold increase in volumetric power density, it offers greater installation flexibility.

Set for mass production in 2026, the Honda Fuel Cell Power Generator provides clean, hydrogen-derived electricity for large facilities. Utilizing the same fuel cell as the Honda CR-V e:FCEV, it features a compact design, high responsiveness, and can begin supplying power within 10 seconds. Honda aims to support customers' diverse energy needs while advancing decarbonization through comprehensive installation and after-sales services.

Volumetric Power Density: The amount of electrical energy that can be output per unit volume

CLARITY FUEL CELL equipped model: First-generation Honda FC module introduced in 2016; production discontinued in 2019.

CR-V equipped model: Current FC module codeveloped with GM and installed in CR-V e:FCEV in 2024.

The Honda Next Generation Fuel Cell Module delivers a maximum output of 150 kW with an efficiency of 59.8%, operating at 450–850 V. It uses Honda Genuine FC refrigerant and hydrogen gas meeting ISO 14687 standards. Designed for flexibility, it has a compact form (W730 × D580 × H700 mm) with a volumetric density of 0.50 kW/L and weight density of 0.60 kW/kg. It operates in temperatures from -30°C to +60°C and altitudes up to 3,500 m, with IP67-equivalent ingress protection. The module supports DC 24V low-voltage power and CAN communication (ISO11898), with protocols including SAE J1939 and Honda Hi-Speed CAN at 500 kbps. Specifications are development targets and subject to change.

The Honda Fuel Cell Power Generator serves as an emergency backup power source, supporting up to four 250 kW units in series (1,000 kW total), with parallel configurations exceeding this capacity. It operates at AC 200–480V (3-phase, 4-wire) and complies with ANSI/CSA FC1 and IEC 62282-3-100 standards. With a startup time under 10 seconds, it functions in temperatures from -25°C to +45°C and altitudes up to 2,000m (performance guaranteed at 1,000m). Emitting zero CO₂ and NOx, it maintains a noise level of 76 dBA or less at 7m. Specifications may change without notice.
