London, United Kingdom- Horse Powertrain Limited., an innovative and low-emission powertrain systems, will unveil its new Horse C15 family of ultra-compact range extender technologies at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, Germany.

Part of the company’s X-Range solutions portfolio, the Horse C15 enables OEMs to transform battery-electric vehicle (BEV) platforms into range-extended EVs (REEVs) with minimal modification. Designed to fit within a space no larger than a briefcase, the system combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, generator, inverter, and cooling package into a highly compact unit measuring just 500 x 550 x 275 mm. It can be mounted horizontally or vertically, giving manufacturers maximum flexibility in vehicle design.

The Horse C15 supports Euro 7, China 7, and SULEV20 standards. The naturally aspirated version delivers up to 70 kW of power for B- and C-segment vehicles, while a turbocharged version raises output to 120 kW for larger D-segment cars and light commercial vehicles. It is compatible with gasoline, ethanol, methanol flex fuels, and synthetic fuels.

Unlike PHEVs or HEVs, the combustion engine in a REEV never drives the wheels directly. Instead, it operates in its most efficient range to generate electricity, maintaining the battery’s charge while reducing fuel use, emissions, noise, and vibration. This approach allows OEMs to reduce battery size, cost, and weight, easing pressure on critical mineral supply chains while maintaining driving range.

Mr. Matias Giannini, CEO of Horse Powertrain, said, “Range-extended EVs are the fastest-growing powertrain category in many markets. The Horse C15 gives OEMs a cost-effective and flexible way to adapt BEV platforms into REEVs. It will play a pivotal role in meeting global demand for efficient, low-emission mobility.”

Like a BEV, REEVs powered by the Horse C15 drive with smooth, responsive electric traction and can be charged via public or domestic charging infrastructure. When paired with low-carbon fuels, their cradle-to-grave emissions footprint is comparable to a BEV.

Horse Powertrain will showcase the Horse C15 range extender at IAA Mobility 2025, Hall A2, Booth B40.
