New Delhi -Hyundai Motor Company and TVS Motor Company Ltd., have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to develop and commercialize electric three-wheelers (E3W) for India’s fast-growing last-mile mobility market.
The agreement follows the successful unveiling of the E3W concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and marks a shift from concept to production-ready development.
Hyundai will lead vehicle design and co-development, leveraging its global R&D capabilities, advanced mobility technologies, and design expertise. TVS Motor will contribute its electric vehicle platform, three-wheeler engineering capabilities, and deep understanding of Indian customer needs.
TVS Motor will also handle manufacturing and distribution in India, ensuring strong market penetration and supporting future export opportunities.
The electric three-wheeler is being developed specifically for Indian road and climate conditions. It will feature adaptive ground clearance for rough and flooded roads, enhanced safety systems, ergonomic seating for long usage, and advanced thermal management for high temperatures.
Flexible interior configurations will allow multiple use cases, including passenger transport, cargo delivery, and last-mile logistics operations.
Localization is a key focus of the partnership. Major components will be sourced and manufactured in India, helping reduce production costs, improve supply chain efficiency, and ensure faster service and spare parts availability.
Mr. Joongsun Ko, Senior Vice President at Hyundai Motor Company, said, “the collaboration reflects Hyundai’s focus on India as a key market and aims to deliver safer, accessible, and sustainable mobility solutions.”
Mr. Sharad Mishra, President – Group Strategy at TVS Motor Company, said, “the partnership combines technology, engineering, and market expertise to create scalable electric three-wheeler solutions for India and global markets.”
The project will now enter development, testing, and certification phases to meet Indian regulatory standards. The first product launch is expected to target India, the world’s largest three-wheeler market, with a focus on affordability, durability, and efficiency.
This partnership strengthens both companies’ position in the electric mobility space and supports the transition toward sustainable last-mile transportation in India.
