Seoul, South Korea - Hyundai Mobis Co., Ltd, an automotive parts supplier, has established a new production facility in Hungary for a global customer, with the plant now fully operational.

Since 2022, Hyundai Mobis has been supplying chassis modules comprising complete front and rear axle assemblies to Mercedes-Benz AG from its manufacturing facility in Alabama, USA. With the launch of the new Hungarian plant, the company is expanding its supply capacity in Europe to support the same automaker.

Chassis modules include key components installed beneath the vehicle body, such as steering, braking and suspension systems, assembled into an integrated frame structure.

The new production base is located in Kecskemét, central Hungary, close to the customer’s manufacturing site. Spanning approximately 50,000 square metres, the plant operates under a Just-In-Sequence (JIS) production system, enabling real-time coordination of production schedules and immediate delivery to the customer.

Hyundai Mobis stated that the expansion into Europe was driven by the strong trust built through its consistent supply performance, advanced manufacturing technologies and quality competitiveness demonstrated at its Alabama facility.

Initially, the Hungarian plant will supply chassis modules for the German premium automaker’s electric and hybrid vehicles. The facility is designed with flexible production lines capable of manufacturing components for electric, hybrid and internal combustion vehicles, allowing rapid adaptation to changing production requirements.

Hungary is emerging as an important automotive manufacturing hub in Eastern Europe, producing over 500,000 vehicles annually and hosting numerous global automakers. Several major German manufacturers operate production facilities in the country, while Chinese automakers and battery companies are also expanding investments in the region. Korean battery manufacturers are strengthening their presence through additional investments to capture growing market opportunities.

Hyundai Mobis already operates production facilities in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Turkey, supplying modules and core components to Hyundai Motor and Kia. The newly established Hungarian plant, however, will serve as a dedicated production base for global customers.

Additionally, Hyundai Mobis is preparing to begin full-scale operations at its Spain plant later this year, which will supply battery systems to another major global automaker. With this addition, the company will operate five production bases in Europe, including three facilities supporting Hyundai Motor and Kia. Through expanded local production capabilities, Hyundai Mobis aims to further strengthen its competitiveness in the European market.
