Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany - Daimler Truck AG., a commercial vehicle manufacturer, is supporting a new fully electric heavy-road logistics project in Italy with Inter IKEA Group and LC3 Trasporti. The partnership aims to accelerate transport decarbonization in line with European goals, while improving logistics efficiency and reducing noise.

The initiative will officially begin in October, setting IKEA Italy on a phased path toward electrifying long-distance road transport and cutting the environmental impact of its logistics. Building on two BEV trucks already in service, the plan is to scale the fleet to more than 10 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks by Q3 2026. The vehicles will operate daily container routes between the ports of Genoa and La Spezia and the Piacenza Distribution Center, while also handling regular store deliveries across Northern Italy from the same hub.

When fully rolled out, the project is expected to deliver over 1.2 million kilometres of zero-emission travel each year, eliminating tailpipe CO₂ on these operations and reducing the climate footprint of road freight. The partners highlight that LC3 Trasporti’s experience with low impact logistics, combined with the next-generation electric technology of the eActros 600, will help accelerate the decarbonization of IKEA’s national distribution network.

In addition to lowering emissions, the electric trucks will also cut noise an important benefit for night-time deliveries helping reduce urban noise pollution and improving community comfort. IKEA says the program supports its broader goal of moving away from fossil fuels and internal combustion engines, even in heavy transport.

Ms. Ewelina Taylor, Global Transport Manager at Inter IKEA Group, Said “This is an ambitious project aimed at significantly reducing our transportation climate footprint in Italy. Thanks to this new triangle partnership we’re able to define the optimal set up together and come up with a solution that reduce the total costs, while also contributing to a cleaner and quieter environment, which is an essential part of our mission of creating a better everyday life”.

Mr. Michele Ambrogi, Commercial Director of LC3 Trasporti, said “This project marks a turning point for LC3 Trasporti. The energy transition is a challenge we have chosen to face with determination. The introduction of the eActros 600 in partnership with IKEA and Daimler Truck Italia demonstrates that collaboration across the supply chain is the only real driver of change. The time for isolated experiments is over - what we need now are scalable, concrete, zero-impact solutions”.

Mr. Maurizio Pompei, CEO Daimler Truck Italia, said “The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 is the result of years of development aimed at radically transforming road freight transport”.
