Aduna, Gipuzkoa (Spain)- Irizar e-mobility, part of the Spanish-based Irizar Group, zero-emissions transport solutions will introduce its electric buses to the Netherlands for the first time through a new contract with Arriva Personenvervoer Nederland. Under the agreement, Irizar will deliver a total of 39 fully electric buses, all based on the Irizar ie tram platform. The order includes 18 standard 12-metre buses and 21 articulated 18-metre units.
The vehicles will operate in the Oost-Brabant region, serving cities such as Tilburg and ’s-Hertogenbosch. They will be deployed on high-capacity BRT routes within Arriva’s public transport network. Delivery of the fleet is scheduled for December 2026.
This contract marks an important milestone for Irizar e-mobility, representing its first entry into the Dutch market. Company representatives highlighted the strategic importance of expanding into a new country and strengthening their European electromobility footprint.
Arriva expressed strong confidence in the new vehicles, noting that they are well suited for busy, high-frequency urban routes. The buses are designed to offer generous interior space, abundant natural light, fast boarding, and a distinctive, futuristic appearance—features aimed at improving passenger experience in dense city operations.
Technically, the buses will be equipped with Irizar batteries exceeding 615 kWh and will be charged at depots using a Combo 2 charging system. Accessibility has been prioritized with both electric and manual ramps. For passenger comfort, the buses will feature interurban-style seating.
A notable ergonomic feature is the driver’s seat with personalized memory settings, allowing automatic adjustment to individual drivers for improved comfort and driving ergonomics.
With its advanced design and zero-emission operation, the Irizar ie tram is positioned as a solution for modern cities seeking cleaner, more sustainable, and more livable urban transport systems.
