JBM Auto to supply 700 CNG buses to DTC

Delhi– JBM Auto Ltd, based in Gurugram, had received an order for 700No’s JBM Citylife1 BS VI-compliant, air-conditioned, low-floor CNG buses for New Delhi from the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) under the cluster scheme3.

            JBM Citylife buses are already plying on Delhi roads and are operated by Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System2 (DIMTS). With the addition of 700 buses by DTC, these buses are expected to cater to around 50 million passengers per annum, covering around 20 routes across Delhi.

These buses manufactured by JBM Auto are equipped with features like 4G chip, smart card ticketing system, real time passenger information system (PIS), Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS), automatic bus vehicle location system, CCTV cameras, public address system and stop request buttons, wheelchair ramp to name a few.

JBM Auto Ltd. has its manufacturing plants in Faridabad (Haryana) and Kosi (Uttar Pradesh) with an annual installed capacity of 2,000 buses.

The monocoque structure and chassis of 12m length, wheelbase 6,320mm is fitted with Independent Front Suspension, 2 Air Bellows, 2 Telescopic Shock Absorbers at front and Inverted Portal Axle with Air Suspension, 4 Air Bellows, 4 Telescopic Shock Absorbers & Stabilizer Bar at rear. Other product highlights include a vehicle health monitoring system, fire detection & suppression system, and Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS). The buses also have features like electronic braking system, CCTV cameras, public address system and kneeling mechanism, wherein the bus ‘kneels’ 60mm towards the passengers’ door side to facilitate boarding and alighting of senior citizens, children and the specially abled.

2Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) Ltd, started operation in April 2016 as a parity joint venture of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT) and the Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC). (IDFC is a foundation based in Chennai set up in March 2011 as a not-for-profit company with a focus on urban transportation). DIMTS provides a range of services to encourage multi-model transportation from concept planning to commissioning, as well as consultancy.

3The Cluster Scheme is where the DIMTS (Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) Ltd) identifies certain transport clusters or services which need improved connectivity and where potential private operators could provide this link by using existing vehicles, to create a connection between transport services. The selection process of the private operator is performed by a tender system executed by DIMTS as per its guidelines. The service provider gets paid against the service rendered which is based on an indexed cost system – this is based on a fixed component attributable to the cost of the bus, a variable component for operating cost such as fuel and maintenance costs and a wage component.
