Pune - India Kawasaki Motors Private Limited (IKM)., a motorcycles manufacturer, has introduced the Kawasaki KLX230 in India at ₹3.30 lakh (ex-showroom), marking the most expensive road-legal dual-sport motorcycle currently available in the country.
The Kawasaki KLX230 is equipped with a 233cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that generates 18.1hp at 8,000rpm and 18.3Nm of peak torque at 6,400rpm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox, ensuring smooth and efficient power delivery for both on-road and off-road conditions. The bike comes with a modest 7.6-litre fuel tank, suitable for light to moderate riding distances. Its suspension setup includes a 37mm telescopic front fork offering 240mm of travel, providing excellent shock absorption and control, and a rear monoshock with 250mm of travel, designed to handle rough terrains and enhance rider comfort.
The KLX230 comes with a basic feature set, including a monotone LCD with Bluetooth connectivity and dual-channel ABS. Weighing 139kg, it’s relatively light but has a tall 880mm seat height, with an optional lower seat available for shorter riders.
The KLX230 currently competes with the Hero Xpulse 200 4V and Xpulse 200 4V Pro, priced at ₹1.51 lakh and ₹1.64 lakh (ex-showroom, India), respectively. This positions the Kawasaki KLX230 at nearly double the price of its rivals, making it a premium offering in the dual-sport segment. While the KLX230 is undoubtedly a capable motorcycle, boasting advanced engineering and performance-oriented features, its steep price tag and Kawasaki's relatively limited-service network in India could present significant challenges for potential buyers.
