Passau, Germany - LIEBHERR-INTERNATIONAL AG., a construction machinery company, has achieved a major milestone with the delivery of its 10,000th XPower wheel loader, now in operation at the Schlag granite quarry operated by BERGER Rohstoffe GmbH in Passau.
The L 580 XPower exemplifies Liebherr’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and durability. At the heart of the wheel loader is the XPower power-split travel drive, which combines the benefits of hydrostatic and mechanical drives. This ensures optimal acceleration, maximum power, and fuel-efficient operation across both short loading cycles and longer-distance travel – making it ideally suited to the demanding conditions of granite quarrying.
At the Schlag quarry, BERGER Rohstoffe processes approximately 200,000 tonnes of Bayerwald granite annually into high-quality chippings for concrete and road construction. The L 580 XPower plays a central role in these operations, feeding coarse rock into crushing plants, stockpiling processed material, and loading finished products onto lorries. It works alongside a Liebherr R 934 crawler excavator equipped with a hydraulic breaker to pre-crush larger rocks.
Mr. Michael Gruber, Technical Operations Manager at BERGER Rohstoffe, said, “We are proud to have the 10,000th XPower wheel loader in operation. The close cooperation with Liebherr and Beutlhauser – especially their outstanding service and spare parts supply – is invaluable,” he said. Gruber also highlighted the operators’ enthusiasm: “The XPower impresses with its productivity, low diesel consumption, and ease of use, making our daily tasks much more efficient.”
The L 580 XPower also stands out for its robust handling performance. Its Z-kinematics deliver high torque in the lower lift arm area, allowing the bucket to fill quickly and efficiently – crucial for heavy rock handling in the quarry. The ergonomically designed cab offers excellent all-round visibility, enhancing both safety and operator comfort during long working hours.
