Liebherr-Canada has delivered fuel-efficient PR 776 dozers to Taseko’s Gibraltar Mine to support high-volume rock movement.
Date: July 8, 2025Ontario, Canada – Liebherr-Canada Ltd., a construction and mining equipment manufacturer, has successfully delivered brand-new PR 776 mining dozers to Gibraltar Mine, the country’s second-largest copper mine, operated by Taseko Mines Limited. With the site moving over 308,000 tonnes of rock daily, operational efficiency and fuel consumption are major considerations - making Liebherr’s PR 776 dozer a strategic addition to the fleet.
Mr. Jan Schroeder, General sales manager for Liebherr-Canada, said, “The PR 776 is the biggest hydrostatically driven dozer in the world. Its powerful Liebherr engine, coupled with its hydrostatic drive, gives our customers by far the best fuel efficiency in the 70-tonne class. This leads to lower operational costs as well as a significant reduction in the amount of greenhouse gases emitted on site. The decision Taseko made to trust Liebherr-Canada and the PR 776 was about a full solution – not just the machine, not just fuel efficiency and not just customer service.”
The latest iteration of the machine, the PR 776 Generation 8 (G8), integrates state-of-the-art electronic architecture. This upgrade makes the dozer compatible with Liebherr Mining’s advanced Operator Assistance Systems, which enhance precision and control when using the dozer’s blade and ripper—further boosting productivity and ease of operation.
While fuel efficiency was a major driver in Taseko’s decision to select the PR 776, the company emphasized that the partnership with Liebherr-Canada extended far beyond product performance.
The delivery marks a significant milestone in the growing relationship between Taseko and Liebherr-Canada. The mining firm praised Liebherr for its collaborative approach, emphasizing the importance of shared values and a strong support network in its procurement decision.
Mr. Tom Juric, Divisional director of mining at Liebherr-Canada, said, “This new partnership with Taseko is an exciting one for us as we now have the chance to showcase the power of Liebherr mining dozers and the incredible work of our customer support personnel at one of the biggest mines in the country.”
With the PR 776 G8 now operating at Gibraltar mine, both Liebherr and Taseko are poised to push the boundaries of performance, sustainability, and collaboration in Canadian mining.
