Bulle, Switzerland - LIEBHERR-INTERNATIONAL AG., a heavy machinery manufacturer, has introduced three new 50-tonne crawler excavators — the R 948 G8, R 952 G8 and R 958 G8 — at steinexpo 2026, targeting earthmoving, extraction and heavy-duty applications.
The R 948 G8 is designed for earthmoving with an LC chassis and optimised motorisation, while the R 952 G8 offers greater versatility through multiple chassis and equipment configurations. The R 958 G8 is aimed at demanding mining applications and features an S-HD chassis and mass excavation equipment.
The new excavators use reinforced structures made from high-strength steels and steel castings to improve durability and operational availability. They also feature Liebherr Positive Control hydraulics for fast and precise machine movements.
Liebherr Power Efficiency technology can reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%, while systems such as Bucket Fill Assist and Modetronic help automate operations and optimise machine settings for different applications.
The machines also feature an integrated passive 2D control system developed with Leica Geosystems, a dynamic weighing system and an optional 3D control solution with semi-automated functions.
Operator comfort is supported by Liebherr’s emCAB cabin and INTUSI interface, along with electric joysticks and improved ergonomics. Safety features include camera assistance systems, optional Skyview 360°, improved access platforms and easier service-point visibility.
With the new R 948 G8, R 952 G8 and R 958 G8, Liebherr is strengthening its crawler excavator range with a focus on efficiency, durability, automation and operator comfort.
