Bulle, Switzerland - LIEBHERR-INTERNATIONAL AG., a construction machinery company, has introduced the new R 992 Litronic crawler excavator, designed to replace the R 976 and deliver higher efficiency, performance, and operator control in quarry applications.
The R 992 is engineered for demanding hard rock excavation, combining strong digging power with improved fuel economy. The machine consumes less than 60 litres of fuel per hour, about 10% less than its predecessor. This improvement comes from the Liebherr Power Efficiency (LPE) system, which automatically regulates engine speed and hydraulic flow according to each digging stage. The result is lower fuel use, reduced mechanical stress, and consistent productivity even under heavy loads.
The excavator also incorporates Bucket Fill Assist (BFA), an operator-assistance system that adjusts bucket movement based on resistance. This prevents binding, ensures smooth loading cycles, and increases bucket fill rates. The feature helps operators achieve faster and more uniform performance, reducing fatigue and training time.
The Liebherr R 992 Litronic combines strength, comfort, and safety for modern quarrying. Its reinforced structure with cast steel components and a heavy-duty undercarriage ensures long service life, while a 5.2 m³ HDV bucket and piston rod guards boost durability in abrasive conditions.
The cab offers a quiet, ergonomic workspace with touchscreen controls and a heated, pneumatic seat. Enhanced safety features include panoramic cameras, impact-resistant glazing, and safe access platforms. With simplified maintenance through automatic lubrication and a hydraulic shut-off valve, the R 992 delivers lasting efficiency, performance, and sustainability.
