Biberach, Germany - Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH., a tower and mobile construction cranes manufacturer, has announced a major modernization of its tower and mobile crane production site in Biberach, with completion planned by 2034. The investment, totaling a nine-figure sum, will upgrade production halls, integrate advanced automation, and expand capacity to manufacture 500 top-slewing cranes, 200 mobile cranes, and 3,000 tower sections annually.
Mr. Werner Seifried, Managing Director for Development and Production of Liebherr Tower Cranes, said, “This project positions Biberach as one of the world’s most advanced crane production plants. We are combining innovation, sustainability, and employee development to meet growing market demands.”
The phased modernisation will include energy-efficient buildings, ergonomic workspaces, and cutting-edge robotics, all while maintaining ongoing operations. Employees will receive targeted training to support the new production systems.
Liebherr’s global tower crane network will also be integrated, with Pamplona (Spain) focusing on bottom-slewing cranes and Pune (India) on top-slewing cranes for price-sensitive markets. The Tower Crane Centre will relocate to Bad Schussenried, adding new facilities for rentals, repairs, and testing.
Dr. Dietrich Birk of VDMA Baden-Württemberg praised the initiative, “Liebherr’s investment demonstrates how competitiveness, sustainability, and regional responsibility can go hand in hand.”
