Magna has opened a new facility in Chakan, Maharashtra, to produce automotive latches and mirrors, creating 300+ jobs.
Date: January 31, 2025Pune- Magna International Inc., an automotive supplier, has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Chakan, Maharashtra, dedicated to producing latches and mirrors for carmakers in western India. Spanning 65,000 square feet, the plant is set to generate over 300 jobs within the next three years.
Mr. Jeff Hunt, President of Magna MML (Mechatronics, Mirrors, and Lighting), officially opened the facility on 29th of with a traditional ceremony that included a puja, ribbon-cutting, and plaque unveiling.
“Our focus on innovation and operational excellence enables us to meet the dynamic needs of our customers by delivering high-quality products that shape the future of mobility,” Hunt said during the inauguration.
This facility bolsters Magna’s presence in India, where the company employs 7,000 people across 14 manufacturing and assembly sites and five engineering, product, and sales offices.
Magna’s expansion in Maharashtra aligns with a broader trend of automotive suppliers increasing their presence in India to meet the rising demand from car manufacturers. The Indian automotive components industry reported a turnover of ₹5.6 trillion in FY23, according to the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA).
Established in 1957, Magna is one of the world’s largest automotive suppliers, employing over 170,000 people globally. The company designs, develops, and manufactures advanced automotive systems, assemblies, and components for leading car manufacturers worldwide.
Chakan, situated near Pune, is a strategic hub for the automotive sector, hosting major players such as Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and Mahindra & Mahindra. The area’s strong industrial ecosystem makes it an attractive location for automotive suppliers like Magna to establish manufacturing operations.
