Pune Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., an automobile manufacturing company, has opened a new EV manufacturing and battery assembly facility at its Chakan plant in Pune. This facility supports the production of Electric Origin SUVs and strengthens Mahindra’s commitment to sustainable mobility.

Mahindra’s new EV plant at its 2.83 km² Chakan hub, powered by 100% renewable energy, underscores its commitment to innovation and sustainability. With ₹4,500 Crores allocated for powertrain development and manufacturing, the fully automated facility features over 1,000 robots, prioritizes skill development and quality, and promotes a 25% gender diversity ratio. This sets the stage for the launch of the next-generation Electric Origin SUVs.

The next-generation EV plant spans 88,000 m² and features a fully automated Press Shop, AI-driven Body Shop, and advanced robotic Paint Shop for enhanced quality and efficiency. With over 500 robots and automated transfer systems, all monitored by an IoT-based “Nerve Center,” the plant ensures real-time process insights and traceability. Adopting Industry 4.0 technologies, including AMRs and AGVs, the plant highlights Mahindra’s focus on safety, speed, and reliable, sustainable manufacturing.

Mahindra's cutting-edge battery assembly line is one of the world's most compact, using patented processes for efficient, high-performance battery production. The fully automated plant integrates Industry 4.0 tech and features advanced testing, IP67 protection, and real-time monitoring. With a no-fault-forward strategy and proprietary switching tech, the plant ensures superior product quality, durability, and safety for electric mobility.

Mahindra’s new Chakan-based manufacturing and battery assembly facility marks a significant step in shaping the future of mobility. With localized battery production, advanced automation, and a focus on innovation, Mahindra strengthens its commitment to "Make in India for the World" and supports India’s COP26 targets for 2030.
