Stuttgart, Germany- MAHLE GmBH.,  an German auto component supplier, has inaugurated a cutting-edge battery development center in Stuttgart, Germany, tailored to meet the specific requirements of its European client.

Spanning over 1,300 square meters, this facility is fully equipped to support all phases of battery development, from initial prototyping to small-scale production. Its capabilities extend across a wide range of applications, ranging from small e-bikes to large electric trucks. Notably, this new center follows the establishment of a vehicle and battery development hub at the company's Northampton site in the UK, which began operations last year.

Mr. Simon Reader, the Managing Director of MAHLE Powertrain, said that, In response to the increasing demand for our expertise in designing, developing, testing, and optimizing batteries for electric vehicles, we are thrilled to open yet another facility to assist our clients in the European automotive industry. The center is already operational, having successfully completed several projects for our OEM partners. We have designed it with future expansion in mind, with plans for additional services and increased capacity.

The facility features a fully-equipped prototype shop that includes a state-of-the-art dual-robot laser welding station capable of handling active HV battery modules.

Furthermore, it houses a comprehensive testing department capable of testing low- and high-voltage packs, with a maximum capacity of 1200V, 2000A, or 550kW. It also incorporates two climatic chambers that can operate across temperatures ranging from -40°C to +90°C, facilitating a wide range of aging, electrical, and thermal tests.

In addition to these capabilities, the center can simulate driving cycles in harsh environments and maintains the highest safety standards with self-extinguishing workbenches and water drop tanks.

MAHLE Powertrain providing engineering services for the design, development, and integration of advanced internal combustion engines and electrified powertrain systems. As a subsidiary of the MAHLE Group, MAHLE Powertrain operates independently, with six technical centers strategically located in the UK, Germany, the USA, and China, boasting around 400 employees in total and a global reach to provide tailored solutions to its clients.
