Leinfelden-Echterdingen – Daimler Buses has announced plans to introduce the Mercedes-Benz Conecto to the German market, responding to sustained demand in the private city bus segment. Built in Turkey, the low-floor bus will expand the company’s urban bus portfolio alongside the Mercedes-Benz Citaro and is designed for operators seeking a practical, cost-efficient solution for standard city bus operations.

The Conecto has already been established in several European markets for many years. With its upcoming entry into Germany, Daimler Buses is widening its offering to better address different customer requirements. While the Citaro will continue to serve as the preferred option for highly customized specifications, complex configurations, and municipal tenders, the Conecto is positioned for operators with more straightforward operational needs, such as school transport, replacement fleets, and similar urban route applications.

The model will be available as a 12-meter solo bus, including a fuel-efficient Conecto hybrid variant, as well as an articulated version. This lineup is intended to cover the most common requirements in city line service while giving operators a more economical alternative without compromising access to Daimler Buses’ established reliability and service support.

Powering the solo bus is the 7.7-liter Mercedes-Benz OM 936 inline six-cylinder diesel engine, producing 220 kW (299 hp) and 1,200 Nm of torque. A hybrid version with 48-volt low-voltage technology is also offered for improved fuel efficiency. The engine complies with the Euro 6 E emissions standard. The articulated Conecto G is fitted with the 10.7-liter OM 470 Euro VI diesel engine, delivering 265 kW (360 hp) and 1,700 Nm of torque.

Production of the Conecto is carried out in cooperation with Turkish manufacturer Otokar. Daimler Buses provides the essential vehicle components along with specialized production equipment to Otokar’s modern manufacturing facility. The company also supports production on site through an experienced Daimler Buses team, ensuring quality standards and operational consistency. This partnership gives Daimler Buses greater production flexibility and additional capacity to support future demand.

Deliveries of the Mercedes-Benz Conecto in Germany are scheduled to begin in mid-2027.

Daimler Buses emphasized that the expansion of the product lineup with the Conecto is fully aligned with its broader transformation strategy. The company remains committed to advancing electromobility, sustainable mobility solutions, and alternative drive technologies. The Conecto is intended specifically for private-sector city bus operators that require short-term capacity in the conventional bus segment while the industry continues its transition toward cleaner transport solutions.
