Haryana- Montra Electric (eM&HCV Division)., has entered into a strategic collaboration with TVS Vehicle Mobility Solutions (TVS VMS), part of the TVS Mobility Group, to deploy electric heavy commercial vehicles in live freight operations. The partnership marks TVS VMS’s first move into electric trucking after more than seven decades of operating conventional commercial vehicles.
As part of the first phase, 57 Montra Electric Rhino 5538 EV 4x2 TT trucks were flagged off at Manesar. TVS VMS will deploy the vehicles on a primary logistics route in Chhattisgarh, covering a lead distance of around 190 km. Three dedicated charging stations will support the fleet to maintain operational uptime.
The deployment is aimed at reducing diesel consumption and carbon emissions while improving operating efficiency and lowering total cost of ownership for freight customers. Both companies see the initiative as an important step towards accelerating the adoption of zero-emission heavy commercial vehicles in India.
Mr. Jalaj Gupta, Managing Director of Montra Electric, said the deployment by TVS VMS demonstrates that the company’s electric truck technology is ready for commercial-scale operations. He added that Montra Electric worked closely with TVS VMS on route planning, charging infrastructure and telematics-based fleet optimisation.
Mr. Navneet Sethi, CEO of Montra Electric’s eM&HCV Division, highlighted that the deployment addresses concerns around the ability of electric heavy trucks to handle continuous and demanding freight operations. He said TVS VMS’s decision to adopt the Rhino platform validates its capability for heavy-load commercial applications.
Mr. Madhu Raghunath, CEO of TVS VMS, said the partnership supports India’s transition towards green logistics through an integrated lifecycle management platform covering vehicle leasing, driver operations, maintenance, insurance, charging infrastructure and connected telematics.
Building on the initial deployment, Montra Electric and TVS VMS plan to deploy more than 300 electric trucks during FY 2026–27.
The Montra Rhino 5538 EV 4x2 TT is a 55-tonne Gross Combination Weight electric tractor-trailer designed for demanding long-haul operations. It is equipped with a 282 kWh LFP battery and a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor producing 280 kW of peak power and 2,000 Nm of torque.
The truck offers a tested range of up to 198 km per charge and is available in fixed-battery and battery-swap configurations. The fixed-battery version can fast-charge from 20% to 100% in around 60 minutes, while the battery-swap version can replace the battery in under six minutes to reduce operational downtime.
