Delhi- Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., (MSIL) has announced the appointment of Mr. Sunil Kakkar as Whole-Time Director, designated as Director (Corporate Planning) on the company’s Board. He will cease to be part of the Senior Management Personnel (SMP) of the company, effective April 1, 2025.

Kakkar brings over 35 years of experience with MSIL, where he most recently held the position of Senior Executive Officer and led the Corporate Planning division. Throughout his tenure, he has played a key role in shaping MSIL’s strategic direction, driving growth initiatives, and spearheading restructuring efforts to enhance organizational agility.

An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Kakkar also holds an MBA from the Asian Institute of Technology, where he received a gold medal for academic excellence.

His leadership at MSIL spans multiple domains, including heading the Supply Chain division and serving as Plant Head of the Gurgaon production facility. Kakkar has been instrumental in developing supply chains for strategic projects, achieving significant localization, and forging joint ventures with global firms from Japan, Italy, and France. These partnerships have introduced advanced technologies into MSIL’s operations, such as Controllers, Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), plastic fuel tanks, and high-tensile sheet metal.

Beyond MSIL, Sunil Kakkar holds directorships at Mark Exhaust Systems, SKH Metals, and Hanon Climate Systems India. He also chairs the SIAM Aatmanirbhar Bharat Sourcing Group, promoting localization in the Indian automotive sector, and serves as Honorary Chairman of the INVEST Northern Zonal Council, Chairman of Assocham’s National Council on Auto & Auto Ancillaries, and Member of the CII Japan Council. These leadership changes reflect MSIL's focus on strengthening corporate planning and sustainability to drive growth in the evolving automotive landscape.
