Date: November 6, 2024Arnprior, Canada- New Flyer Industries Canada ULC., a bus manufacturer, a subsidiary NFI Group Inc. (NFI), announced two firm orders for 51 units of Xcelsior CHARGE NG 40-foot battery-electric buses from OC Transpo a public transport operator in Ottawa. The purchase is part of the 2023 Toronto Transit Commission contract, allowing Ontario agencies to place orders. Funding is supported by a loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank and a grant from Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada (HICC). The units were added to New Flyer’s backlog in Q4 2023.
OC Transpo’s bus and O-Train network covers 480 square km across Ottawa and Gatineau. The agency aims for a zero-emission fleet by 2036, with this procurement supporting its transition to zero-emission buses (ZEB), alongside infrastructure and garage upgrades.
Mr. Chris Stoddart, President, North American Bus and Coach, NFI, said, “This important order follows the completion of a successful pilot project at OC Transpo that began in 2021 and included the launch of four Xcelsior CHARGE buses into revenue service. New Flyer has leveraged advanced technologies and our extensive zero-emission experience to create these vehicles, and this combination has resulted in an industry-leading battery-electric bus.”
