Shanghai, China - NIO Inc. an electric vehicle manufacturer Bosch signed a strategic cooperation agreement during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s first official visit to China. The deal was signed by Dr. Shen Feng (NIO) and Dr. Johannes Sommerhaeuser (Bosch).
The partnership will cover NIO, ONVO, and firefly, focusing on joint development of smart EV technologies such as drive-by-wire chassis and battery management systems, along with major vehicle systems including braking, steering, powertrain, body electronics, and sensing modules.
Through this agreement, NIO and Bosch will strengthen joint innovation in key smart EV technologies, combining their strengths across the value chain to support high-quality industry growth. The partnership also highlights the deepening of China–Germany cooperation in energy transition and advanced manufacturing, contributing to sustainable development and closer economic ties.
On February 25 in Beijing, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz co-chaired a China–Germany Economic Advisory Committee symposium at the Great Hall of the People, attended by over 60 business leaders. William Li, NIO’s Founder, Chairman, and CEO, joined as a representative of China’s automotive industry.
At the symposium, Li discussed green and low-carbon development, digital transformation, supply chain resilience, and the investment environment, and held talks with German automotive leaders on expanding collaboration as the global industry accelerates toward electrification and smart mobility.
