Yokohama, Japan - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. an automobile manufacturer, has announced plans to introduce the U.S.-built Murano in Japan, with sales set to start in early 2027.
The Nissan Murano is produced at Nissan North America’s manufacturing facility in Smyrna, Tennessee, one of the company’s key production hubs in the United States. To introduce the model in Japan, Nissan will take advantage of the new certification framework for U.S.-built passenger vehicles that was established by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in February 2026. This updated system is designed to simplify the approval process for eligible imported vehicles, enabling Nissan to more efficiently bring the U.S.-manufactured Murano to the Japanese market.
Mr. Ivan Espinosa, Nissan’s president and chief executive officer, said: “I'm excited to share with you that Murano is coming back to Japan. The Murano has earned high praise from customers in the U.S. market for its elegant design and exceptional comfort. It was named the Most Dependable Midsize SUV in the JD Power 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM(VDS) for the second year in a row. With the introduction of this model, Nissan aims to further strengthen its product lineup in Japan and meet the diverse needs of Japanese customers.”
