New Flyer will supply up to 750 clean-diesel Xcelsior buses to NJ TRANSIT starting in 2026, enhancing fleet capacity and reliability across New Jersey.
Date: June 17, 2025Winnipeg, Canada- NFI Group Inc., a leader in propulsion-agnostic and innovative bus and coach mobility solutions, announced that its subsidiary, New Flyer of America Inc., has received a significant contract from the New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJ TRANSIT)., for the supply of up to 750 Units of Xcelsior 60-foot clean-diesel transit buses, representing 1,500 equivalent units (EUs).
The contract begins with a firm order of 200 buses (400 EUs), with deliveries scheduled to commence in 2026. It also includes options for an additional 550 buses (1,100 EUs). This procurement was added to New Flyer’s Q1 2025 order backlog and stands as one of the company’s largest clean-diesel bus orders to date. The award further underscores New Flyer’s dedication to offering high-capacity, dependable transit solutions that support agencies like NJ TRANSIT in fleet modernization and service optimization.
NJ TRANSIT, which operates a fleet of over 3,500 vehicles, including more than 2,200 buses, provides over 225 million passenger trips annually across New Jersey and neighboring areas. The addition of the new Xcelsior buses will replace aging units, improving fleet reliability and operational efficiency across its network.
Powered by ultra-low sulfur diesel, the Xcelsior clean-diesel platform combines next-generation engines and advanced emissions control systems to deliver a proven, low-emission solution engineered for high-performance in demanding urban transit environments.
