Riding NueGo: India’s First Intercity EV Bus

      Vehicles |Logistics and Fleet

India’s transition to electric mobility has now taken a bold step beyond city limits. NueGo, powered by GreenCell Mobility, is the country’s first all-electric intercity bus service. Targeting major metro corridors like Bangalore to Chennai, it offers both semi-sleeper and full sleeper options, claiming a cleaner, quieter, and smarter travel experience.

But does the service meet the rising expectations of Indian intercity travelers?

      Booking & Boarding Experience

NueGo’s online booking system — available via app and website — is simple and intuitive. Digital ticketing, seat selection, and UPI support make the booking experience seamless.

However, real-time information remains limited. During our trip, there was no live tracking, and the bus arrived 10 minutes late with no staff at the boarding point. Communication during delays remains a weak spot.

      Onboard Experience

      Clean, Modern Fleet

From the outside, NueGo buses look sharp and well-branded. Inside, they feel fresh, sanitized, and thoughtfully designed. Whether you're boarding a sleeper or semi-sleeper, the cabins present a modern, inviting environment.

Sleek and well-maintained, the NueGo AC sleeper coach sets a new visual standard for Indian highways.

      Interior Comfort & Ride Quality

Full-sleeper cabin with ambient lighting and quiet EV operation for a restful journey.

Spacious semi-sleeper seats with personal AC vents, USB charging, and good recline angle.

Ride quality is a highlight. The electric drivetrain delivers near-silent operation, with no engine noise and minimal vibration. Air suspension cushions most bumps, and the smooth acceleration enhances passenger comfort — especially for overnight journeys.

The Charging Halt: A Necessary Pause

One unavoidable reality of electric intercity buses: charging halts. On our Bangalore–Chennai trip, the bus made a midway stop near Ambur, lasting nearly 60 minutes.

Charging halt midway: Standard practice for EV buses, but adds to travel time.

No rest stop or refreshment support was available at the charging site, and passengers remained inside the bus. The stop was also not reflected in the ETA — a transparency issue that needs urgent attention.

      Race Auto India Service Scorecard

"NueGo’s electric buses deliver a remarkably refined and silent ride — easily the most comfortable intercity experience I’ve had at this price point. If they can tighten operations and reduce charging downtime, this could redefine highway travel in India."

NueGo’s electric intercity buses are more than just a green initiative — they’re a serious step forward in redefining how India travels between cities. The ride quality is exceptional, the cabins are clean and comfortable, and the pricing is fair. It’s a product built right — quiet, smooth, and purpose-driven.

What holds it back isn’t the bus, but the ecosystem around it: charging halts, service coordination, and customer communication still need maturity. That said, for eco-conscious passengers and casual travelers with flexible schedules, NueGo is already a better choice than most diesel options.
