Hyderabad / Shimla- Olectra Greentech Limited., part of the MEIL Group, a manufacturer of pure electric buses and electric tippers, has become the first company in India to deploy 4,000 electric buses, marking a significant milestone in the country’s transition towards sustainable public transportation.
The company commemorated the achievement by handing over its 4,000th electric bus to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Mukesh Agnihotri. The handover took place during the flag-off ceremony for 297 Olectra electric buses inducted into the Himachal Road Transport Corporation fleet.
The event was attended by senior representatives from the Himachal Pradesh Government, HRTC and Olectra Greentech.
Olectra’s electric buses are currently operating across several Indian states and cities, supporting public transport authorities with lower-emission and cost-efficient mobility solutions. The company said its buses have transported millions of passengers while delivering reliable performance and reduced operating costs.
Olectra’s fleet of 4,000 electric buses has collectively travelled more than 730 million green kilometres. According to the company, the fleet has helped prevent over 650,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, contributing to cleaner urban air and reduced dependence on diesel-powered public transport.
