Puducherry- Olectra Greentech Ltd. and the Puducherry Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) have introduced 25 electric buses into the union territory’s public transport network, marking a significant step toward zero-emission urban mobility.
The fleet15 non-AC and 10 AC buses, each 9 metres long with a range of up to 200 km per charge—was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, and Speaker R. Selvam, alongside senior government officials. Dedicated charging infrastructure near Nehru Theatre will support day-to-day operations.
Under a 12-year Gross Cost Contract, Evey Trans Private Limited (a MEIL Group company) will operate and maintain the buses. Speaking at the launch, Mahesh Babu, Managing Director of Olectra Greentech Ltd., said: “We are proud to partner with the Government of Puducherry and PRTC in advancing the Smart City mission through sustainable public transport.”
The addition of these buses follows the successful inspection and approval of prototype vehicles earlier this year. With this deployment, Puducherry joins a growing list of Indian cities adopting Olectra’s e-mobility solutions.
