RACE Energy hopes to successfully recycle or refurbish more than 90% of the raw materials from its old batteries through this agreement.
Date: October 17, 2023Hyderabad- Race Energy Limited., an electric vehicle (EV) battery swapping company, has teamed up with Lohum Cleantech Pvt Ltd., a provider of sustainable energy transition materials, to begin the challenges of EV battery waste and find alternative uses for batteries that have reached the end of their primary use. This collaboration aligns with the principles of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), which emphasize responsible battery management.
Race Energy hopes to successfully recycle or refurbish more than 90% of the raw materials from its old batteries through this agreement. A battery manufacturing facility with a 50 MWh capacity that can produce up to 30,000 batteries a year was opened by the business in June 2023. RACE Energy's dedication to sustainability is clear in their battery-enhancing methods, which increase battery life by about 40%.
Lohum, on the other hand, plans to use the batteries from Race Energy for secondary purposes like renewable energy storage or recycling them for smaller electric vehicles (EVs). With this strategy, batteries are used and reused in numerous capacities before reaching their ultimate end-of-life stage, promoting a circular economic model.
Mr. Gautham Maheswaran, Co-Founder of Race Energy, said that, it will increase the longevity of their swappable battery modules and turn them into useful supplementary applications, the company claims. Mr. Chetan Jain, Senior VP of Business at Lohum, praised RACE Energy's initiatives to increase the sustainability of EV batteries.
In September 2023, Lohum achieved fame when it produced Pure Metallic Lithium using its innovative NEETM multi-stage hydrometallurgical recycling technique. With this innovation, Lohum became the first company outside of China to accomplish this through recycling, paving the way for a more environmentally friendly method of handling battery materials.
This collaboration between Race Energy and Lohum is an important step in solving the problem of EV battery waste and identifying creative approaches for battery reuse, ultimately paving the way for a more environmentally friendly and sustainable future.
