Mountain View, United States- Range Energy Inc. (Range) is partnering with global tech supplier ZF to integrate ZF’s AxTrax 2 e-axle into its eTrailer System. This collaboration aims to enhance efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend range, accelerating the adoption of hybrid and zero-emission trucking in North America.
Mr. John Hawkins, senior vice president, Commercial Vehicle Solutions, ZF, said, “Electrified trailers offer a viable solution to reduce emissions in food delivery and goods transport, enhance fuel economy for combustion engines, extend the range of BEVs and electric trucks, and minimize exhaust, noise, and brake particle pollution. Range’s market position makes it a natural partner for the AxTrax 2 e-axle in North America. This collaboration expands the applications of our electric mobility products while supporting a promising leader in tackling emissions in a challenging sector.”
ZF, in next-gen mobility, is supplying its AxTrax 2 e-axle to Range and helping strengthen its industry partnerships. Range’s eTrailer System, featuring a modular battery pack, smart kingpin, and ZF’s e-axle, delivers up to $20,000 in annual savings per trailer and cuts emissions by up to 70%, all while integrating with existing equipment.
AxTrax 2 is a fully integrated, axle-based system with a compact design that maximizes battery space and enhances design flexibility for future vehicles. It seamlessly synchronizes with braking, ADAS, and automated driving systems to boost safety and efficiency while enabling advanced telematics and digital communication via CAN bus.
Mr. Ali Javidan, CEO and founder, Range. “Time is of the essence to get solutions into the hands of commercial fleet owners and operators to ensure smooth and consistent operations as their fleets evolve to address emissions reduction targets. Partnering with a market leader like ZF, in an effort to seize the electric trailer market in commercial trucking is humbling. With ZF, we aim to rapidly advance our platform with tried and tested components, further proving that electric-powered trailers can play a critical role in reducing the environmental impact of commercial trucking.”
Initial customer deliveries of Range’s eTrailer System are expected to begin this year, and the company currently has pre-production units deployed in customer pilots across North America.
