Sveta Nedelja, Croatia - Rimac Technology d.o.o., an automotive supplier specializing in high-performance electric vehicle components, partnership with BMW highlights its growing role as a trusted Tier 1 supplier to leading premium automakers.

Rimac Technology and BMW Group have announced the first production vehicle from their technology partnership, launched in 2023, with the new BMW i7 set to make its global debut at Auto China 2026 in Beijing on April 22. The model will be the first BMW Group battery electric vehicle to use a jointly developed battery system that integrates BMW’s Gen6 4695 lithium-ion cylindrical cells with its Gen5 module-based technology in a scalable architecture.

The partnership also reflects a major manufacturing milestone for Rimac Technology. Within a few years, the company established a new production facility, industrialized two complete production lines, and built a full supply chain capable of meeting the quality and volume standards required by a premium global automaker.

The battery system is jointly engineered with BMW and produced at the Rimac Campus near Zagreb, a state-of-the-art facility built specifically for advanced battery manufacturing. The dedicated production area for this program covers 15,000 square meters within a 90,000 square meter campus, where most of the capacity is allocated to battery system production for multiple global OEM programs. Designed for complex, high-specification, high-volume output, the Rimac Campus strengthens the company’s position as a dependable Tier 1 partner for leading automotive brands.

Mr. Mate Rimac, Founder and President of the Rimac Group, CEO Bugatti Rimac, said “BMW has always been known for pushing engineering to the highest level, which made this collaboration especially exciting for us. Together, we developed a high-voltage battery system that unlocks the full potential of the new cylindrical cells in record time, delivering significant improvements in energy, range, and charging performance. We are proud to now see this system being produced at scale at our new Rimac Campus.”

Mr. Nurdin Pitarević, CEO of Rimac Technology, said “This collaboration with BMW represents an important step forward in electric vehicle technology. Together, we have developed advanced battery technology for the BMW i7, delivering outstanding performance, efficiency, and reliability. What makes this partnership special is BMW’s engineering excellence and the way they approach collaboration — treating Rimac Technology not just as a supplier, but as a true technology partner. I believe this is a great example of how OEMs and technology companies should work together in the future.”

Mr. Thomas Engelhardt, Senior Vice President Development High-Voltage Battery and Charging, BMW Group, said “We are rapidly rolling out the technologies of the Neue Klasse across our entire model portfolio - naturally including our fully electric luxury sedan. The development teams of both companies have created a tailormade solution for the new BMW i7 in a remarkably short time. The excellent collaboration with Rimac Technology is a strong example of European innovative strength.”
