Motherwell, Scotland – Rokbak., a brand of Volvo Group and an articulated dump trucks manufacturer, has partnered up with Hydex Solutions Ltd., a construction equipment manufacturer, and Hills Machinery., a Rokbak dealer in North Carolina, to launch a new line of high-capacity water trucks designed for dust suppression in demanding environments.
The collaboration centers around the Rokbak RA30 and RA40 articulated dump trucks (ADTs), now reimagined as water trucks. Built in Motherwell, Scotland, these machines are known for their off-road performance and durability. Under the Hydex name, both models have been upfitted with heavy-duty water tanks — 6,000 gallons (22,712 liters) for the 370-hp RA30 and 9,000 gallons (34,068 liters) for the 444-hp RA40 — complete with high-performance spray and pumping systems.
Hills Machinery has helped to develop a versatile water truck using RA30 and RA40 haulers. Upfitting takes place at a Hydex-Hills facility in Seattle, with distribution from Wilson, NC, backed by Hills’ Uptime Operations for fleet management, real-time monitoring, and parts support.
The water tanks are designed for serious on-site use. They feature American-made components like an Elkhart water cannon capable of spraying over 213 feet and a Berkeley hydraulic pump. Flow rates are adjustable to 320, 480, or 630 gallons per minute, with a range of spray bars and nozzles for different site configurations. Other features include a rear-mounted electric hose reel and an optional suction system for drawing water from nearby sources.
Mr. Robert Franklin, Director of sales - Americas at Rokbak, said, "This is about using a proven platform to meet a pressing and growing need. The RA30 and RA40 give contractors the power, manoeuvrability, and durability they need in a base machine - and now, with this adaptation, we're showing just how far that platform can go."
Mr. Jim Hills, President of Hills Machinery and Hydex, said, "We work with Rokbak on a daily basis and believe those to be the best two trucks to outfit these tanks with. But we also recognize that some contractors will want to keep their fleet standardized so we're happy to work with everyone to solve their dust suppression and water access needs."
With this new offering, Rokbak and Hydex are stepping up to provide practical, high-performance solutions for an evolving industry.
