Worcestershire, England- Royal Enfield., has unveiled a custom-built motorcycle based on its Super Meteor 650 model in Australia, named Project Delta. This bike was created in collaboration with the Australian custom builder Purpose Built Moto.

Project Delta features extensive modifications that evoke the design aesthetics of the 1940s and 50s, drawing inspiration from Royal Enfield's iconic historic models, such as the Super Meteor 700 and the Flying Flea from World War II. The custom build includes a reworked frame with vintage hardtail styling, while still incorporating modern engineering elements. Key features include a hand-crafted Girder Fork, custom spoked wheels, and a slim fuel tank inspired by the 1952 Super Meteor 700.

Tom Gilroy, founder of Purpose Built Moto, explained that the project is a culmination of his eight years of design experience and a fresh direction for his company. "We've crafted a vision that merges the modern powertrain of the Royal Enfield 650 twin with elements inspired by the original Super Meteor 700 and antique models like the Flying Flea of the 1940s," Gilroy said.

Anuj Dua, Head of International Business for Royal Enfield’s Asia-Pacific region, praised Australia's role in the custom motorcycle scene. "Australia has provided us with an incredible community of customizers who consistently inspire and challenge us," Dua remarked.

Royal Enfield, founded in 1901, is one of the oldest motorcycle brands still in continuous production, renowned for leading the mid-size motorcycle segment (250cc-750cc) globally. The Super Meteor 650, launched in 2022, is part of the brand’s 650 Twin platform, contributing to its growing international presence.

Australia has seen a surge in custom motorcycle building over the past decade, with several builders gaining international acclaim for their unique and innovative designs. Purpose Built Moto, based in Queensland, has become a leading name in the custom bike industry, specializing in bespoke builds and aftermarket parts.

Project Delta is expected to be a showcase piece rather than a production model, following the tradition of custom builds created by manufacturers to explore design possibilities and generate excitement among enthusiasts.
