Romania- Schmitz Cargobull AG., is strengthening its production network and reinforcing its presence in the fast-growing Central European market with the launch of a new assembly plant in Oradea, Romania. The new facility marks another key step in the company’s international expansion strategy and enhances its ability to serve transport operators in the region more efficiently.

Assembly of the S.CS curtainsiders began at the site in January 2026, while production of the S.KI tipper semi-trailers is scheduled to start in spring 2026. The Romanian plant adds to Schmitz Cargobull’s existing manufacturing footprint, which already includes facilities in Germany, Lithuania, Spain, the UK, and Turkey.

Mr. Andreas Schmitz, CEO of Schmitz Cargobull AG, said the new plant fills an important gap in the company’s international production setup and brings the brand closer to transport companies in Central Europe. He noted that the company aims to support customers with reliable and innovative transport solutions that deliver long-term value, including high-quality trailers, shorter delivery times, round-the-clock spare parts support, and a broad portfolio of services ranging from financing and trailer telematics to used vehicle sales.

Schmitz Cargobull currently holds a 25 percent market share in Europe, making it one of the leading semi-trailer manufacturers on the continent. The company is also the market leader in key segments such as the S.CS curtainsiders, S.KO COOL refrigerated semi-trailers, S.KI tipper semi-trailers, and S.BO dry freight semi-trailers.

In Central Europe, Schmitz Cargobull has built a particularly strong position, with a 31 percent market share. In Romania, the company leads the market in the curtainsider, refrigerated trailer, and tipper trailer segments. Through its local subsidiary, Schmitz Cargobull Romania, the company has already delivered more than 50,000 trailers, underlining its strong customer base and trusted market presence. An efficient spare parts distribution network, supported by around 30 authorized service partners, helps ensure quick response times and high vehicle uptime.

The company has invested approximately €3.5 million in the new Oradea assembly plant. The site features a 6,000 m² production area with the capacity to manufacture up to 80 units per week in single-shift operation. In addition, the facility includes an outdoor area of up to 45,000 m². The plant currently employs 25 qualified specialists, who are focused on maintaining efficient production processes and delivering integrated solutions for customers and partners. Schmitz Cargobull also plans to further expand the Romanian site in the coming years.
