Horstmar, Germany- Schmitz Cargobull AG., is a German manufacturer of semi-trailers, trailers and truck bodies, is set to become the full owner of Berger Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH after Berger’s shareholders decided to transfer their remaining shares to the company. Schmitz Cargobull has held a 49% stake in Berger since 2024, and the planned transaction will increase its ownership to 100%, subject to approval from the relevant competition authorities.
The move follows the successful collaboration between both companies since 2024. Berger’s strong expertise in lightweight trailer construction, combined with Schmitz Cargobull’s industrial capabilities and Europe-wide sales and service network, has created a strong foundation for deeper integration.
In 2025, the companies jointly invested in production technology at Berger’s Radfeld site and in the development of the new Evolution Generation of BERGERecotrail. The new product line combines Berger’s weight-optimised lightweight chassis with Schmitz Cargobull’s modular and versatile body system.
Mr. Andreas Schmitz, CEO of Schmitz Cargobull AG, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s portfolio by adding Berger’s specialist lightweight construction expertise. He noted that customers will benefit from a broader range of efficient transport solutions from a single source.
Mr. Gerhard Berger, main shareholder of Berger Fahrzeugtechnik, said the integration into the Schmitz Cargobull Group creates the right conditions to further develop Berger’s technologies and reach more customers across Europe. He added that the combination of Berger’s lightweight engineering and Schmitz Cargobull’s industrial strength provides a solid platform for future growth.
The integration aims to secure and expand Berger Fahrzeugtechnik’s specialization in lightweight construction while providing long-term development support through Schmitz Cargobull’s industrial structure.
