Solaris Receives Order for 50 More Buses for Madrid

Bolechowo-Osiedle, Poland- Solaris Bus & Coach sp. z o.o., has received an order form the transport company EMT Madrid for 20 low-entry Urbino 9 LE electric buses and 30 Urbino 12 electric buses. These modern, quiet, and emission-free vehicles will significantly contribute to Madrid's ambitious goals of having a fully emission-free municipal bus fleet.

The transport company from the capital of Spain has decided to purchase 50 new zero-emission buses from Solaris. The order includes two popular models the low-entry Urbino 9 LE electric and the classic Urbino 12 electric. These modern vehicles, equipped with Solaris High Energy batteries, will substantially contribute to the electrification of EMT Madrid's fleet. Deliveries will be completed by the end of July 2024.

In accordance with the Sustainable Environmental Development Strategy of the Madrid City Council, known as "Madrid 360," EMT Madrid aims to operate a fleet consisting entirely of low- and zero-emission buses. In December 2022, the company announced the retirement of the last vehicle with traditional combustion engine from service. As a result, Madrid became the first major European capital (in terms of population and the number of serviced buses) to be served exclusively by a low- and zero-emission municipal bus fleet. EMT's strategic plan for 2025 also emphasizes clean energy sources, including the use of photovoltaic installations and green hydrogen.

While the 12-meter Urbino 12 electric model is already well-known to the Spanish operator, the low-entry Urbino 9 LE electric buses will make their debut on Madrid's streets. A central motor that runs on Solaris High Energy batteries will power the buses. The driver's cabin of all models offers an ergonomic workspace that is safe and compliant with EMT regulations, complete with integrated driver assistance technologies. One feature that's worth highlighting is the contemporary monitoring system that took the place of the conventional mirrors. In terms of seating arrangements, 24 people can be accommodated in a 9-meter version and 28 people in a 12-meter version.

Furthermore, the eSConnect service that EMT Madrid also ordered will increase the battery car fleet's potential. Precise route planning for individual lines is substantially facilitated by this technology, which also enhances diagnostic and servicing capabilities.

60 Urbino 12 electric buses and 250 Urbino 12 CNG buses make up EMT Madrid's current fleet. Once the most recent contract for 50 battery buses is completed, the business will have 360 contemporary, low- and zero-emission Solaris vehicles.
