Punjab - Sonalika Tractors., a tractors manufacturer, has introduced its first CNG/CBG-powered tractor at the 16th Agrovision 2025 summit, marking the company’s entry into alternative-fuel agricultural machinery. The launch was attended by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The new tractor is built to operate on compressed natural gas and compressed bio-gas, supporting government programs such as SATAT and GobarDHAN aimed at expanding clean fuel adoption. The model runs at 2000 rated RPM and comes with a 12+3 constant mesh transmission featuring a side-shift gear setup. It includes 14.9x28 rear tyres and a dual-cylinder fuel system with a combined 40 kg capacity. Sonalika positioned the tractor for heavy-duty haulage operations, where fuel savings and strong torque output are critical.
Alongside the tractor, Sonalika showcased a tractor-trolley configuration designed to leverage growing CNG infrastructure in rural belts. The company stated that the shift to alternative fuel systems could significantly reduce operating costs compared to traditional diesel engines.
Mr. Raman Mittal, Joint Managing Director of International Tractors Limited, said, “The CNG/CBG tractor represents a step toward sustainable farming technology. He emphasized the company's focus on combining performance with environmental considerations and economic viability for farmers.”
The launch comes at a time when the agriculture sector is increasingly encouraged to adopt cleaner technologies without compromising productivity. With compatibility for both CNG and bio-gas, the new tractor is positioned to support evolving fuel ecosystems and India’s expanding bio-energy network.
