Ellesmere, England - Spread-a-Bale Ltd., an agricultural machinery company, has expanded its popular M range of straw spreading machines with the launch of the MEGA, a robust new model specifically engineered to handle the largest and most challenging bales in modern livestock farming.

The Mega, unveiled at the Royal Highland Show, builds on Spread-a-Bale’s proven features such as a double-acting two-way spool and no low-pressure return line, by integrating several heavy-duty upgrades. These include HD (heavy duty) motors designed to process high-density and compacted bales, along with a high flow (HF) hydraulic manifold and larger 3/4-inch pipes to boost performance and efficiency.

Equipped with Hardox wear plates on the front floor section for added durability and featuring 1.3-meter-high rotors, the Mega can spread a wide range of bale types. It accommodates round bales up to 1.8 meters in diameter and, thanks to the XL body option with an extra 300mm bed length, can also handle rectangular bales up to 2.8 meters long. Its powerful 2VR (two vertical rotors) head achieves an impressive spread pattern arc of up to 9 meters. To operate, the Mega requires a loader with a minimum lift capacity of 3.0 tonnes.

Mr. Michael Hughes, CEO of Spread-a-Bale, said, “We’ve added the HD, HF and bigger hoses to this one, single machine to provide unmatched power enabling it to spread the hardest, compacted bales. The Mega requires just one materials handler and is able to load one bale in approximately one minute followed by a further minute to discharge and spread thereby demonstrating improved efficiency in terms of systems, labour and diesel usage and like all Spread-a-Bale models, it’s noted for helping farmers to make their straw go further with minimal dust.”

The Mega loads and spreads a bale in about two minutes, cutting labour, fuel use, and dust while making straw last longer. Optional extras include a side frame, Feed-a-Bale canopy, and galvanised finish. Now available globally through Spread-a-Bale’s dealer network.
