Michigan, United States- Stoneridge Inc., a designer and manufacturer of advanced electrical and electronic systems for the automotive and commercial vehicle markets, has introduced the SE5000 Smart 2 tachograph, now equipped with Open Service Navigation Message Authentication (OSNMA) technology. This integration enhances security for European commercial vehicles by utilizing Galileo, Europe’s Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), to accurately determine vehicle positions and prevent spoofing.
The SE5000 Smart 2 meets the EU Mobility Package I regulations, which aim to improve road safety, prevent driver fatigue, and promote fair competition in international transport. The package mandates that all new vehicles be equipped with second-generation smart tachographs by August 21, 2023, and requires the retrofitting of these tachographs in vehicles used for international transport by August 19, 2025.
With OSNMA technology and updated software, the SE5000 Smart 2 offers improved accuracy, security, and overall performance, enhancing the experience for fleets, drivers, and workshops.
Mr. Natalia Noblet, President of Stoneridge’s Electronics Division, said, “Stoneridge continues to prioritize innovation and compliance, empowering fleets with the technology they need to navigate tomorrow’s road transport landscape confidently.”
SE5000 Smart 2 with OSNMA is now available for order. Existing SE5000 Smart 2 units can also be upgraded via a software update.
