Bengaluru- Tata Elxsi, design and technology services company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Synopsys (India) Private Ltd., a silicon-to-systems design solutions, to jointly develop advanced automotive virtualization solutions. The MoU was formalized during the SNUG India 2025 event in Bengaluru, with senior leadership from both organizations present.
This strategic collaboration aims to deliver pre-verified, integrated solutions and services that simplify the design and deployment of virtual electronic control units (vECUs)—a key enabler for software-defined vehicles. The combined strengths of Tata Elxsi’s expertise in embedded systems and system integration, along with Synopsys’ industry-leading virtualization technologies, will help automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers streamline software development, reduce complexity and cost, improve software quality, and mitigate production risks.
The two companies are already engaged in joint programs with several global customers, supporting vECU implementation, software bring-up, board support package (BSP) integration, and early-stage validation across key vehicle domains such as powertrain, chassis, body control, gateway, and central compute. These efforts help simulate real-world driving conditions, validate software early in the cycle, and reduce the dependency on physical prototypes.
Looking ahead, Tata Elxsi and Synopsys plan to further expand their collaboration to accelerate the adoption of electronics digital twins for multi-ECU systems and application-specific architectures, enabling next-generation vehicle development at scale.
Mr. Sundar Ganapathi, Chief Technology Officer of Automotive, Tata Elxsi, said, “Our partnership with Synopsys reflects a future-forward response to how vehicle development is evolving. As OEMs move away from traditional workflows, there is growing demand for engineering services that are tightly integrated with virtualization tools. This strategic collaboration enables us to jointly address that shift with focus, flexibility, and domain depth.”
Mr. Marc Serughetti, Vice President, Synopsys Product Management & Markets Group, said, “The automotive industry’s transformation to software-defined vehicles requires advanced virtualization capabilities from silicon to systems. Our leadership enabling automotive electronics digital twins, combined with Tata Elxsi’s engineering scale and practical experience operationalising automotive system design, will simplify the adoption of virtual ECUs and thereby accelerate software development and testing to improve quality and time to market.”
