Mumbai- Tata Motors Limited., a commercial vehicle manufacturer, has commenced deliveries of its Prima E.55S electric prime movers to BillionE Mobility, marking a significant step forward in the country’s zero-emission heavy-duty freight transport segment. Alongside the initial handover, Tata Motors also secured an additional order for 250 electric prime movers, underlining the growing adoption of electric trucking in long-haul logistics.

The fleet will be rolled out in phases and deployed across major freight corridors in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi NCR, and Haryana. These vehicles will support the long-distance transportation of steel, cement, and other industrial goods, strengthening sustainable freight movement across India.

The first batch of trucks was handed over in the presence of Girish Wagh, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Ltd., Kartikey Hariyani, Founder of BillionE Mobility and ChargeZone, and Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Ltd., along with senior leaders from both companies.

Mr. Kartikey Hariyani, Founder of BillionE Mobility and ChargeZone, along with Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO of BillionE Mobility, said the company is focused on creating electric commercial vehicle solutions that can be deployed reliably and at scale for inter-city freight operations. They added that BillionE is entering into a strategic partnership with Tata Motors as part of its long-term expansion plan, targeting the deployment of 1,500 heavy-duty electric logistics vehicles in India over the next 6 to 18 months. According to them, the Tata Prima E.55S offers the performance, dependability, and operational efficiency required for demanding logistics applications, while its 450 kWh battery pack, described as the largest in its class, significantly enhances long-haul transport capability.

Mr. Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks, Tata Motors Ltd., said that electric trucking can only scale when vehicles are designed around real-world operating needs such as duty cycles, uptime, energy efficiency, and total cost of ownership. He noted that the Prima E.55S has been developed with this application-led approach and combines India’s first high-performance e-axle, an advanced battery management system, dual charging ports, and a segment-leading 450 kWh battery pack engineered for extended range and demanding use cases. These technologies, he said, are aimed at delivering strong performance, higher uptime, lower operating costs, and quicker payback for customers. He also highlighted that Tata Motors’ close collaboration with BillionE Mobility has helped align both the vehicle and the supporting ecosystem for dependable electric operations across key freight routes.

Part of the Tata Trucks.EV portfolio, the Prima E.55S is built on Tata Motors’ advanced i-MoEV electric vehicle architecture. It features a full-electric drivetrain with an integrated e-axle and regenerative braking system. Equipped with a 450 kWh battery pack, the truck delivers a range of up to 350 km on a single charge, making it suitable for long-haul applications.

The vehicle is also equipped with a 3-speed Auto Shift transmission, dual-gun fast charging capability, and a wide range of safety features including a Driver Monitoring System, Lane Departure Warning, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Cruise Control, Electronic Braking System, and optional ADAS features. Its premium Prima cabin has been designed to improve driver comfort and productivity, further supporting efficient long-distance operations.
