Mumbai - Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. (TMPV), an automobile manufacturer, has announced the launch of the AMT option in the Altroz iCNG. With this introduction, the Altroz iCNG becomes the first premium hatchback in India to offer an automatic transmission with a CNG powertrain.
Priced from ₹8.69 lakh, the Altroz iCNG AMT is designed to offer customers the fuel efficiency of CNG along with the comfort and convenience of automatic driving. The new variant further strengthens Tata Motors’ Altroz line-up, which already offers multiple powertrain choices for different customer needs.

With the introduction of AMT in the iCNG line-up, we are addressing a clear and growing customer need for greater convenience in CNG vehicles. This addition makes Altroz the most versatile and premium offering in its segment delivering the right balance of efficiency, ease of driving and everyday practicality, without compromising on space or safety."
The Tata Altroz iCNG AMT is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron iCNG engine, producing 73.5 PS and 103 Nm of torque in CNG mode. For the first time, this engine is paired with an AMT gearbox, making daily driving easier and more convenient, especially in city traffic.
The iCNG system uses a single advanced ECU that allows smooth switching between petrol and CNG modes. It also features Direct Start in CNG mode, a first-in-segment feature, which improves convenience and supports consistent performance across different driving conditions, including inclines and longer journeys.
One of the key highlights of the Altroz iCNG is Tata Motors’ twin-cylinder CNG technology. Instead of placing a large CNG cylinder in the boot, the twin cylinders are positioned below the luggage area. This helps the Altroz iCNG offer a usable 210-litre boot space, reducing one of the common limitations of CNG cars. The petrol and diesel versions of the Altroz offer 345 litres of boot space.
Premium Design and Comfort
The Altroz iCNG AMT continues with the premium styling of the new Altroz. It features flush door handles, infinity-connected LED tail lamps, sleek LED headlamps with DRLs, and a modern exterior design.
Inside, the cabin offers a more premium and comfortable experience with executive lounge-style rear seats, a soft-touch Grand Prestigia dashboard, ambient lighting, and Ultra View 26.03 cm twin digital screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system by HARMAN. The spacious layout further enhances passenger comfort.
Safety Features
The Altroz is built on Tata Motors’ ALFA architecture using ultra-high-strength steel. It continues to be one of India’s safest hatchbacks, with a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating across petrol, diesel, and CNG powertrains.
The car comes with several standard safety features, including 6 airbags, ESP, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and reverse parking sensors. It also offers advanced safety and convenience features such as a 360-degree HD surround view camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, auto headlamps, and LED fog lamps.
