Pantnagar - Tata Motors Limited., an automotive company, has launched a fleet of locally manufactured electric buses for workforce transportation at its Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand. These zero-emission buses, featuring advanced battery systems, will be operated by TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited (TSCMSL) using Tata Ultra 9m electric buses.

The e-bus service aims to offer a safe, comfortable, and convenient travel experience, all while significantly lowering carbon emissions. With the capacity to transport over 5,000 people, the fleet is expected to reduce approximately 1,100 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. Powered entirely by electricity from a 16 MW solar energy plant, the service is fully sustainable and aligns with Tata Motors' commitment to promoting green mobility solutions.

Mr. Vishal Badshah, Vice President and Head of Operations at Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, said, “The introduction of electric buses for workforce transportation marks a significant step towards Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles’ goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. We remain committed to integrating sustainability across all our manufacturing facilities, covering sourcing, development, engineering, and operations. The launch in Pantnagar highlights the plant’s numerous sustainability achievements, including Zero Waste to Landfill certification and water-positive certification from CII-GBC.”

The Tata Ultra EV 9m electric bus is driven by a fully electric drivetrain and incorporates advanced technologies such as regenerative braking and Intelligent Transport Systems. This initiative builds on Tata Motors' success in electric mass mobility, with over 3,100 electric buses already deployed across 10 cities. Together, these buses have traveled over 2.4 billion kilometers, achieving an impressive uptime of over 95%, underscoring Tata Motors' commitment to reliability and efficiency in electric mobility.
