Mumbai- Tata Motors Limited., a commercial vehicle manufacturer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Think Gas Distribution Pvt. Ltd., a supplier of CNG, PNG and LNG, to strengthen the LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) refuelling ecosystem for long-haul and heavy-duty trucking across the country. The collaboration aims to accelerate the transition to cleaner freight movement by improving infrastructure readiness, promoting fuel-quality awareness, and encouraging wider adoption of LNG-powered commercial vehicles.
Under the partnership, Tata Motors will work with THINK Gas to identify key freight corridors and logistics hubs suitable for developing LNG refuelling infrastructure. THINK Gas will focus on maintaining high standards of fuel quality and reliable supply, ensuring optimal vehicle performance. Tata Motors customers will also receive exclusive benefits, including preferential pricing.
Commenting on the collaboration, Mr. Rajesh Kaul, Vice President & Business Head – Trucks at Tata Motors, said that LNG offers a strong pathway towards sustainable long-haul transportation. He highlighted the company’s early investments in alternate-fuel technologies and emphasised that the partnership will help strengthen the ecosystem and build confidence among fleet operators by improving access to LNG refuelling infrastructure.
Mr. Somil Garg, Senior Vice President and Business Head (LNG Fuel), said the company aims to make cleaner fuels more accessible and affordable across India. He noted that partnering with Tata Motors will support THINK Gas in strategically expanding its LNG network, backed by global investors such as I-Squared Capital, Osaka Gas, Sumitomo Corporation, Konoike Transport and JOIN.
Tata Motors continues to lead in developing mobility solutions powered by alternative fuels, including battery electric, CNG, LNG, hydrogen internal combustion and hydrogen fuel cell technologies. Its commercial vehicle portfolio includes a wide range of alternate-fuel powered models across categories such as small commercial vehicles, trucks, buses and vans.
THINK Gas currently operates 18 LCNG (Liquefied and Compressed Natural Gas) stations, with several more under development. Its proposed LCNG corridor will connect major industrial hubs, agricultural regions and logistics centres, ensuring reliable LNG access for fleets operating across manufacturing, warehousing, exports and agricultural supply chains.
